Why tiny?

A finished tiny earthen house with wooden windows

A small house uses far less material and invites a simpler way of living. It also means we can move through many stages of the build in a short time, so you get to practise a wide range of skills.

Why women?

Women plastering earthen walls

I learned to build with earth 12 years ago in an all-women’s build. It was a truly transformational experience that I’d love to pass on to others.

Who is it for?

This is a build for women, trans and non-binary people, a supportive space to learn earth building together. If you’re not sure whether it’s for you, just get in touch.

Mud building is suitable for all ages and abilities. Come if you have no experience and are curious to see how it all works. Come if you have some experience and want more practice or to learn specific skills. Or come simply to have fun in the mud with wonderful people, because it really is a joy.

What you’ll learn

Laying adobe bricks under a shade cloth
  • Making and laying adobe bricks
  • Building with cob
  • Earth plasters and natural finishes
  • Fitting door and window frames
  • How a tiny house comes together from foundation to finish

Where will I stay?

Inside an earthen building

We’ll be surrounded by green, leafy nature in the cool of the Thai winter. Accommodation is simple and shared:

  • Dorms in earthen buildings, with mattresses on the floor, warm blankets and mosquito nets
  • Twin tents for two people, large enough to stand in
  • Small single tents, with your belongings kept in the mud house
  • Or bring your own tent for a private space

All bathrooms are shared, with hot showers. If you enjoy simple time in nature (think camping or a rustic festival setting) and home-cooked Thai food, this is for you! If you prefer the comforts of a hotel, there are guest houses nearby you can book yourself. Get in touch to talk about options.

Contribution

Your contribution covers the workshop, accommodation on site and all meals. We offer a sliding scale so the workshop can be open to as many people as possible. Please choose the option that feels right for you.

Supported: 8,000 THB
For local Thai residents and anyone who needs support.

Regular: 11,000 THB
The standard price, covering the true cost of the workshop.

Abundance: 14,000 THB
For those who are comfortable and able to support someone else to attend.

How to join

Places are limited to a small group. Register on Luma and I’ll review each registration personally. I’ll send payment details (card or Thai PromptPay) and once payment is received, your place is confirmed.

About me

I’m Na, a regenerative systems designer, facilitator and artist. I’ve been building with earth for over a decade and have mentor permaculture design for six years. I’ve led hands-on building and outdoor learning for people of all ages for eight years. I’m part of the core team of GENOA, the Global Ecovillage Network for Oceania and Asia and a Certified Trainer of Ecovillage Design Education.

This little forest home near Chiang Mai is where I live and build. I’ve run lots of building days but this is the first women’s workshop for a complete house on this land, so it’s going to be quite special 🙂
